Stormgate aims to expand the core RTS audience with a free-to-play business model that welcomes all players to the community and appeals to players of adjacent genres like MOBA for a wide top of the funnel and a vibrant, active ecosystem. By fostering strong connections with the community, and expecting to present a variety of monetization options, we intend to create a lasting connection that leads to strong lifetime value. Our community-first approach to funding ongoing development has already proven to resonate with players, as evidenced by an average Kickstarter pledge of approximately $85 per backer. We plan to build on this success and to significantly grow the audience through greater approachability and more opportunities for rich, social gaming experiences.

The plan is for Stormgate to be free-to-play, with ways for players to more deeply engage if they want more. Designed with the goals of maximizing player retention and financial sustainability, Frost Giant intends to embrace a transparent monetization strategy with Stormgate. This approach includes a variety of future revenue-generating options, ranging from personalization options such as pets and cosmetics, story content, battle passes, and premium playable Hero characters. Each element is crafted to enhance the player experience without compromising the competitive integrity of the game.

Based on our Kickstarter performance, we found that the majority of players backed the largest digital content bundle, the Ultimate Founder’s Pack, priced at $60. The average Kickstarter Backer revenue was approximately $85 with pledges ranging from $1 up to $5,000. Access to closed playtesting was a popular incentive for Kickstarter backers, and we have received an outpouring of requests for access following the end of our Kickstarter campaign. We plan to offer this access to even more players through late pledges as well as Founder’s Pack pre-sales on Steam. The potential reach to customers on Steam as we continue to offer digital content greatly outweighs what was possible on Kickstarter.
Frost Giant plans to feature more approachable gameplay modes and sticky social features to help catapult the real-time strategy genre back into the mainstream. One successful example where this strategy was employed was with Bandai-Namco’s Elden Ring, which popularized the “Souls-like” (highly challenging action role-playing games), previously considered a niche genre. This approach has been used by companies such as Blizzard Entertainment and Riot Games, creating blockbuster hits by refining proven designs and making them more approachable to a wider audience.
Additionally, Heroes in Stormgate provide players who are new to RTS with a character on the screen meant to make the game feel more familiar and approachable. Heroes will allow for unique army compositions and can specialize in roles such as offense, defense, or support, and create powerful synergies with their allies. We plan to release new paid Heroes regularly, creating exciting moments to welcome new players to the game, recurring monetization opportunities, and incentivizing players to return.

The 10% StartEngine Venture Club Bonus
Frost Giant Studios, Inc. (“Frost Giant” or the “Company”) will offer 10% additional bonus shares for all investments that are committed by investors that are eligible for the StartEngine Venture Club.
This means eligible StartEngine shareholders will receive a 10% bonus for any shares they purchase in this offering. For example, if you buy 100 shares of Series CF Preferred Stock at $8.68 per share, you will receive 110 shares of Series CF Preferred Stock, meaning you'll own 110 shares for $868. Fractional shares will not be distributed and share bonuses will be determined by rounding down to the nearest whole share.
This 10% Bonus is only valid during the investor's eligibility period. Investors eligible for this bonus will also have priority if they are on a waitlist to invest and the Company surpasses its maximum funding goal. They will have the first opportunity to invest should room in the offering become available if prior investments are canceled or fail.
Investors will receive the highest single bonus they are eligible for among the bonuses based on the amount invested and time of offering elapsed (if any). Eligible investors will also receive the Venture Club bonus, the Loyalty Bonus, and the Reservation Bonus in addition to the aforementioned bonus.

Hello, StartEngine investors. Thank you for your support in helping us bring Stormgate to the world. As we continue to push forward, we’ve assembled a recap of our recent updates including our progress on the game, notable additions to the team, and future plans.
Highlights
- Early Access Launch: Frost Giant’s first game, Stormgate, launched into Early Access at the end of July. Audience response was mixed, and player feedback is helping to drive priorities as Stormgate moves towards 1.0.
- New Art Director: Allen Dilling, formerly the assistant Art Director of StarCraft II’s Legacy of the Void and Heart of the Swarm, has joined as our new Art Director, bringing with him a wealth of experience in crafting iconic game visuals.
- Performance Enhancements: Ongoing improvements to Stormgate's performance remain a top priority as we work to improve the gameplay experience across a wide range of supported systems.
- Content Upgrades: Various aspects of Stormgate’s visuals, audio, narrative, and campaign design are being improved based on player feedback.
- Follow-On Funding: We have secured a commitment for additional funding from existing investors, to enable us to continue working towards a strong 1.0 release.
Team Updates
We’re thrilled to welcome Allen Dilling to Frost Giant Studios as our new Art Director. With an impressive track record, particularly with StarCraft II, Allen brings unique expertise in developing high-impact visuals that resonate with players. His creative direction will be pivotal as we refine and elevate Stormgate's aesthetic appeal. Our previous Art Director is still working on Stormgate in a principal artist role, having made the decision to take a step back from leadership responsibilities.
Product Update - Stormgate Early Access
Improving Player Experience Through High-Impact Updates
To maximize our odds of a successful Stormgate 1.0 launch, we’ve prioritized delivering high-impact updates and performance improvements that directly address player feedback that we received following our Early Access release. Patch 0.1.2, was released on October 29. This patch significantly increased frame rates alongside improved DirectX 12 support, leveling up the game’s overall performance for a substantial percentage of our players, resulting in smoother gameplay across the majority of supported systems. Our efforts to address technical issues and to deliver on the promise of smooth, responsive gameplay, will continue throughout development.

We followed this up with Patch 0.1.3 on November 12, which delivered a wide array of balance changes that were generally well received by our dedicated community of competitive players and professional gamers. We expect to increase balance patch cadence in the future, which we believe will improve daily active user average and concurrency, as we typically see these numbers increase immediately following a balance patch.
Development Milestones and Early Access Progress
As development continues through Early Access, our team is working diligently on roadmap features and gameplay polish. Based on the feedback we’ve received, we’re doubling down on aspects players have informed us are a high priority, while also refining underperforming areas.
We are also working on our innovative team-based 3v3 mode, which we are calling Team Mayhem. StartEngine investors interested in participating in future Team Mayhem playtests can do so by emailing pr@frostgiant.com.
Our next major release of the year, our 0.2 Update, is currently scheduled for the second half of December. It will include a new playable Hero and an expansion of our Co-op game progression.
Competitive Community Building
In recent months, several Stormgate tournaments took place featuring top RTS players from around the world. Our Korean publishing partner, Kakao, co-organized the Stormgate League Invitational with AfreecaTV, featuring 16 renowned Korean pro gamers with large fan followings.

The grassroots Stormgate esports scene was also active, including several community-organized events like the Aureil Tournament invitational.
Fundraising
To support our progress toward a 1.0 launch, Frost Giant has signed a term sheet for additional funding from existing investors. These funds will allow us to maintain momentum and help set Stormgate up for a successful 1.0 release. We deeply value the trust and continued support of our investor community as we progress toward our goals.
Industry News
Update on the state of RTS and Steam games in our category.
- Frost Giant CEO Tim Morten recently gave a developer-facing talk at IndiaGDC, sharing his learnings from our studio’s experience with releasing a game to Early Access.
- Blizzard released StarCraft II and StarCraft: Remastered to GamePass in November. More RTS players and StarCraft fans will help grow our potential audience, which bodes well for Stormgate’s future 1.0 release.
- Blizzard Entertainment recently released WarCraft II Remastered, and updated WarCraft III: Reforged. It’s a good sign to see Microsoft and Blizzard Entertainment dedicating resources to this style of game. We believe that StarCraft and Warcraft players will look for similar experiences after completing these campaigns and are likely to find Stormgate and give it a try.
- Microsoft also recently released Age of Empires Mobile, to bring the storied RTS franchise to more players.
- Four other upcoming RTS games have had continued rounds of public testing: ZeroSpace, Battle Aces, Immortal: Gates of Pyre, and Tempest Rising. All of these games look promising in different ways, and we believe that increased activity can lift the market segment as a whole. Historically, multiple RTS franchises have succeeded simultaneously, with StarCraft, Command & Conquer, Age of Empires, and Total Annihilation all overlapping to varying extents.

It’s finally here! Stormgate Early Access becomes free-to-play for all players at 10 a.m. Pacific time on August 13, but for any players who can’t wait to jump in, we’re running a special Twitch Drop & Steam Drop today that will give you a head start so you can get in today! Read below to learn more.

Stormgate Head Start Twitch & Steam Drops
Like we mentioned to players in our first Twitch Drops blog before the Preview Period began, we’re running a special drop on Twitch today that will provide a free head start access key to Stormgate before it becomes free-to-play tomorrow.
To start earning progress towards your Twitch Drops, head to the Drops & Rewards button in your Twitch menu and search for Stormgate. Once you find our Drops campaigns, click Connect to head to our account linking website, where you’ll be prompted to link your Twitch and Steam accounts. Once you’ve done that, you’ll be able to start earning progress towards your rewards while watching Drops-enabled streams. To earn the drop on Steam, you can watch a broadcast offering the drop here.
While the Head Start Twitch Drop is running today, we’ll be pausing the cosmetic Twitch Drops (including the Rizzy Kitty pet) until Stormgate is released to Early Access at 10am Pacific on August 13. Afterwards, the cosmetic Twitch Drops will continue to run until the end of the month.

Watch Stormgate to earn Twitch Drops!
Stormgate launches into Early Access on July 30 (and goes free-to-play on August 13, 2024) and we’re celebrating with a month-long Twitch Drops campaign with three exciting in-game rewards!
Stormgate Twitch Drops Rewards
From July 30–August 27 PDT, Twitch Drops will be enabled for all Stormgate-streaming channels. If you tune in to any streamer with Drops enabled, you’ll be able to start earning progress towards these three cosmetics.
In addition to these cosmetics, we’ll have a special Drops campaign where you can get into the game on the final day of the Early Access Preview for free! Starting at 10 a.m. PDT, watch Stormgate on Twitch for three hours and you’ll earn a Steam key that will allow you to play Stormgate early for just a few hours before the game becomes free-to-play for everyone on August 13, 2024.
Regardless of whether you’re aiming for the in-game-items, game access, or both, we hope you and our many Stormgate commanders around the world join us for this special launch event. We’ve also given many of our Stormgate streamers some digital packs to give away, so watching Stormgate will be a reward-filled adventure for the next few weeks!
How Players Can Earn Drops
To start earning progress towards your Twitch Drops, head to the Drops & Rewards button in your Twitch menu and search for Stormgate. Once you find our Drops campaign, click Connect to head to our account linking website, where you’ll be prompted to link your Twitch and Steam accounts. Once you’ve done that, you’ll be able to start earning progress towards your rewards while watching Drops-enabled streams.
Once you’ve unlocked a reward by watching the required hours, you can head back to your Drops dashboard and click Claim. Once your reward(s) are claimed, you’ll have them in your inventory the next time you log into Stormgate.
Please keep in mind that the Preview Period access drop that begins on August 12 will be a separate Drops campaign, so you’ll have to link your account again to start earning progress for that campaign once it begins.
How Streamers can Enable Drops on their Twitch Channel
If you’re a content creator interested in streaming Stormgate, you’ll be able to enable our Drops campaign on your channel by navigating to your Creator Dashboard and clicking Viewer Rewards → Drops, then making sure your Enable Drops toggle is set to “On”.
Once drops are enabled for you, as long as you set your Stream Category to Stormgate in your Stream Manager, drops will automatically be enabled for your viewers. We encourage you to add !drops or some other indicator to your Stream title so that your viewers know that drops are enabled on your channel when browsing Stormgate streams.
We plan to begin our Drops campaign around 1 p.m. PST on July 30, 2024, but this time may be subject to change based on how our initial launch goes. Keep an eye on our Stormgate Discord server and social media channels for updates!

1) At $1M/month, your burn rate is astronomical. When do you anticipate that coming down? 2) Assuming you raise the max ($5M) and draw down venture debt ($2M), you will only have about one year of runway. Bearing that in mind, when do you anticipate needing to raise funds again? 3) It looks like your valuation is based in part on future revenue projections. Does everything have to go right from this point forward for those revenue projections to be achieved? 4) With a valuation based on 4X EBITDA, it sounds like you're anticipating EBITDA of $37.5M in the first year (post early Access), correct?

Great project! Two questions. My question is if all the original backers VCs and prominent gaming companies like Riot Games invested $30M why aren’t they investing in you for only additional $1 M- $5M. Are they tapping out or did they see something not worth expanding their investment? Second question is doing a bit of due diligence reading YouTube, Reddit and few other articles seems like a few people were either excited or underwhelmed with the gameplay plus graphics. Has the graphics, gameplay and other development improved the last few months to address the beta feedback?

Can someone kindly list what rewards I'm eligible for and how to ensure that I get them? 2.) I think I get a 10% bonus here for backing the Kickstarter at all, but does my $1k carry over to this in any way for other bonuses? 3.) With Regulation A+, a non-accredited investor can only invest a maximum of 10% of their annual income or 10% of their net worth per year, whichever is greater. There are no restrictions for accredited investors.
With Regulation Crowdfunding, non-accredited investors with an annual income or net worth less than $124,000 are limited to invest a maximum of 5% of the greater of those two amounts. For those with an annual income and net worth greater than $124,000, they are limited to investing 10% of the greater of the two amounts.
At the close of an offering, all investors whose funds have “cleared” by this time will be included in the disbursement. At this time, each investor will receive an email from StartEngine with their Countersigned Subscription Agreement, which will serve as their proof of purchase moving forward.
Please keep in mind that a company can conduct a series of “closes” or withdrawals of funds throughout the duration of the campaign. If you are included in that withdrawal period, you will be emailed your countersigned subscription agreement and proof of purchase immediately following that withdrawal.
StartEngine assists companies in raising capital, and once the offering is closed, we are no longer involved with whether the company chooses to list shares on a secondary market or what occurs thereafter. Therefore, StartEngine has no control or insight into your investment after the close of the live offering. In addition, we are not permitted to provide financial advice. You may want to contact a financial professional to discuss possible investment outcomes.
For Regulation Crowdfunding, investors are able to cancel their investment at any point throughout the campaign up until 48 hours before the closing of the offering. Note: If the company does a rolling close, they will post an update to their current investors, giving them the opportunity to cancel during this timeframe. If you do not cancel within this 5-day timeframe, your funds will be invested in the company, and you will no longer be able to cancel the investment. If your funds show as ‘Invested’ on your account dashboard, your investment can no longer be canceled.
For Regulation A+, StartEngine allows for a four-hour cancellation period. Once the four-hour window has passed, it is up to each company to set their own cancellation policy. You may find the company’s cancellation policy in the company’s offering circular.
Once your investment is canceled, there is a 10-day clearing period (from the date your investment was submitted). After your funds have cleared the bank, you will receive your refund within 10 business days.
Refunds that are made through ACH payments can take up to 10 business days to clear. Unfortunately, we are at the mercy of the bank, but we will do everything we can to get you your refund as soon as possible. However, every investment needs to go through the clearing process in order to be sent back to the account associated with the investment.
Both Title III (Regulation Crowdfunding) and Title IV (Reg A+) help entrepreneurs crowdfund capital investments from unaccredited and accredited investors. The differences between these regulations are related to the investor limitations, the differing amounts of money companies are permitted to raise, and differing disclosure and filing requirements.
